Course Description:

This creative and skill-building course introduces teens to the exciting world of jewelry design and modeling. Students will explore a variety of techniques including beading, clay modeling, wirework, and mixed media design. They’ll learn how to create personalized accessories that reflect their unique style and vision, while developing an understanding of color theory, pattern design, and material combinations.

• Overview of jewelry design
• Material and tool exploration: beads, wires, cords, clay, tools
• Understanding the design process: mood boards and sketching

• Understanding color harmony, contrast, and personal style
• Introduction to pattern creation: symmetrical, asymmetrical, layered

• Techniques with air-dry or polymer clay: shaping, texturing, curing
• Crafting pendants, beads, and statement components

• Basics of wirework: loops, hooks, jump rings, wrapping
• Using pliers and findings professionally and safely

• Combining materials: chain, fabric, leather, recycled objects
• Jewelry as a narrative: mood, memory, meaning
• Activity: Design a themed statement piece inspired by a personal story or concept

• Basics of styling and modeling handmade jewelry
• Reflection, peer feedback, and certificate distribution

Lesson 7: Final Project – Mini Jewelry Collection

• Concept planning: 2–3 cohesive pieces in a themed mini collection
