Spraying the silk lightly with water before adding color increases the flow of the dye or paint. Sprinkling silk salt on the piece while it is still wet and leaving until it is completely dry before brushing off the salt, produces interesting textural effects. Applying alcohol to dye-painted silk can also create beautiful effects.

What’s the best way to paint on silk?

Apply the first layer of paint while the silk is still wet.

To create designs or patterns on the silk, apply even strokes using a paintbrush dipped in the paint color of your choice. The size of the paintbrush you choose will correspond to how thick or thin the lines or designs are.

Is painting in silk difficult?

Painting on silk isn’t as difficult as you thought. The most difficult is working with water color paint because when you are just a little too much water or paint, you completely change your painting. I think you can do it better next time because, you know, practice makes perfect
